The traveling glass cheeseburger • Venice

On our first evening in Venice, we are craving spaghetti with vino rosso.  It is a quick prayer to answer.  I pluck my glass cheeseburger from my sunshine yellow purse and place it on the table.  This day was surreal to say the least.  I never thought I would be a glassblower.

I graduated university in 2007 with a passion for linguistics, art, and expression.  I remember spilling my coffee I was so excited to see an ad for an opening at a gallery in Seattle.  Working for Vetri and Traver for a year transformed my dream into a reality.  I worked next door to the Museum of Glass in Tacoma.  I spent many hours a day watching the team in the MoG hot shop and grew increasingly absorbed in the process of their work as glassblowers.  After my work with Traver came to an end, there lingered the desire to learn how to be a glassmaker.  A year later, I experimented with glass and fell in love.  This portal in to my crafting is my passion project, my work in progress, and one of my mediums for experimentation and my own personal evolution.

We walk along the canal after a delicious dinner, using mosaics as breadcrumbs to find the apartment.  I drift off to the sound of foreign tongues in the piazza.
